This project is essentially developing the definition of the CGI (Common Gateway Interface) specification, which describes how servers (primarily Web servers) can communicate with external server-side scripts and applications in the process of composing a response to clients.

This is somewhere between documentation, software development, and specification development: it's a project to

  1. Document current practice of CGI/1.1 in an informational RFC, and
  2. Develop the next version of CGI (1.2) to address the warts and shortcomings that have been discovered in the 1.1 specification

The project has a mailing list; see the site for details.
